Funeral Mass for Steve Balazs, 80, of Willoughby, will be 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. John Vianney Church, 7575 Bellflower Road, Mentor. Mr. Balazs passed away Monday, Dec. 8, 2014, at his residence in Willoughby surrounded by his family. Born April 15, 1934, in Cleveland, he had been a resident of Lake County for 42 years, living in Willoughby. Steve had many interests including camping, baking, westerns, crocheting blankets for his grandchildren and spending time with his family. He was also a teller of tall tales. Mr. Balazs retired from TRW after 40 years of service. He was the beloved husband of 59 years to Phyllis A. (nee Whitely) Balazs; loving father of Steve (Sandy) Balazs, Dennis Balazs, Mary Beth (Rich) Grgic, Kim (Ken) Flanagan, Patricia (Tom) Linden, Julianne (Ron) DeMao and Catherine Balazs; grandfather of 14; great-grandfather of five; brother of Andrew (Mary Jane) Balazs, Julius Balazs and Mary Helen Whitely; uncle of many nieces and nephews; and cousin of many. He was preceded in death by his children, Annie Balazs and David Joseph Balazs; parents, Andrew and Mary (nee Popp) Balazs; brothers, John Balazs and Joseph Balazs; sister-in-law, Lona Balazs; and brother-in-law, Jim Whitely. Family will receive friends from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday at McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio Funeral Home, 6330 Center St. (Route 615, north of Route 2), Mentor. Burial will be in All Souls Cemetery in Chardon Township.
