Memorial services for Bruce A. Smith, 62, of Painesville, will be held 5 p.m. Saturday at McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio Funeral Home, 6330 Center St., (Route 615, north of Route 2), Mentor. Mr. Smith passed away Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2011, at Wade Park Veterans Hospital in Cleveland. Born April 2, 1948, in Cleveland, he had grew up in Cleveland and lived in Madison before moving to Painesville 13 years ago. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and member of the Col. Justice Chambers Marine Corps League. He was very active in bowling and golfing, having been a member of several leagues, most recently at Scores. He was very proud of bowling a 300 game. In his leisure time, he loved gardening and growing giant sunflowers and having many tomato plants. Mr. Smith was the owner of Empire Coffee. He was the beloved husband of April B. (Burnham) Smith; loving father of Samantha (Dennis Hickey) Smith of Madison, April (Rick Wiersch) Smith of Clearwater, Fla., Angela Louk of Painesville and Lydia Louk of Painesville; grandfather of Rio and Gia Wiersch; and brother of Cindy (John) Takaht of Cleveland. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Clare (Zawicki) Smith; and brother, Gary Smith. Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be private. The family suggests contributions in his name be made to the Wade Park Veterans Hospital
