Funeral service for J. Doyle Adkins, 82, of Mentor, will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Mentor Baptist Church, 7500 Johnnycake Ridge Road, Mentor. Pastor Brian Lundren will officiate at the service. Mr. Adkins passed away Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2014 at his residence surrounded by his family. Born Oct. 5, 1931 in Van, West Virginia, he was a Lake County resident for 42 years. Doyle retired from D.F.T. Lighting. He was a member of Mentor Baptist Church and Moose Lodge of Cuyahoga Falls. He loved spending time with his family, loved being outside, camping, fishing, and boating, and enjoyed entertaining others with his band, “The Spare Parts Band”. He was the beloved husband of 63 years to Irene (nee Green) Adkins; loving father of Allen (Tonya) Adkins of Mentor, Steve (Maureen) Adkins of Stow, Greg (Gina) Adkins of Mentor, Sandra Adkins-Pertz (Rick) of Englewood Fla., and Cheryl Adkins-Kistner of Mentor; grandfather of 12 and great grandfather of eight; brother of Kenneth Adkins of Clearwater, Fla., Joan Brown of Largo, Fla., and Juanita Girardi of Largo, Fla. He was preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Lilly Mae (nee Smith) Adkins. Family will receive friends 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio Funeral Home, 6330 Center St, (Route 615, north of Route 2), Mentor. Entombment will be at Western Reserve Memorial Gardens in Chester Township.
