Mildred Mary Lonsway (nee Bates) 94, entered into eternal rest surrounded by loving
family on Tuesday, July 21, 2015 at Villa St. Joseph at the Village of Marymount.
Born July 23, 1920 at the St. Ann’s Infant Asylum in Cleveland, Mildred was adopted soon thereafter by George and Bessie Bates where they resided in Willoughby Hills.
She had an infectious sense of humor and was gracious and loving to a fault. She was
deeply committed to her Catholic faith, and served as a member of the Legion of Mary for over
30 years. She could often be overheard saying, “God is so good”, “Jesus, I love you” or “Life is Good”.
She was an inspiration to all who knew and loved her.
She met her husband Max Lonsway, in 1949 and married two years later. They resided in
Cleveland, then moved to Willoughby and then made their home in Mentor for over 30 years.
Mildred was a homemaker where she worked tirelessly to raise nine children. She also fostered nine children, seven of whom were infants.
Mildred was the loving mother of Carol (Steve) Brazill, Mary (Jim) Parent, Therese (Doug) Nemeckay,
Elizabeth (Kacey) Lonsway, Mark (Cristian) Lonsway, Bill (Diane) Lonsway, Paul Lonsway, Greg (Julene) Lonsway and Dave Lonsway ; cherished grandmother of Jeff, Mike, Julie, Tom, Louie, Kim, Jessie, Hailee, Grant, Ann, Samuel, Thomas, Ella, Jeremy and Jackie; great grandmother of Kaylie, Noah and two on the way.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Maxwell “Max” Lonsway in 2000;
and parents, George and Bessie (nee Ferrick) Bates.
Family will receive friends at the McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio Funeral Home, 38001 Euclid Ave.,
Willoughby, 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday. A Rosary service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Funeral Mass will be at Immaculate Conception Church, 37940 Euclid Ave., Willoughby, 12 noon Saturday. Father Robert Clancy will officiate at the Mass. Burial will be at All Souls Cemetery, Chardon Township.
