Betty J  Reed
Funeral services for Betty J. (nee Kolpin) Reed, 84, of Mentor, will be 11 a.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church, 37728 Euclid Ave. Willoughby. Pastor Adam Sorenson and Pastor Robert Schuler will officiate. (Family and friends are asked to please meet at church.)
Mrs. Reed passed away Saturday, Oct. 21, 2017, at Hospice House of the Western Reserve in Cleveland.
Born Aug. 1, 1933, in Aurelia, Iowa, she had been a Lake County resident for 58 years, living in Willoughby Hills before moving to Mentor 30 years ago.
Betty was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Willoughby for many years, was a 25-year volunteer at Lake West Medical Center in Willoughby and had made thousands of heart shaped pillows for heart surgery patients. She was inducted into the Lake County Senior Citizens Hall of Fame in 2005. Betty also liked puzzles and enjoyed going to garage sales, but her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the true “joys of her life.”
Mrs. Reed was a teacher in the Willoughby-Eastlake School System for 35 years and had also taught school in Iowa.
She was the loving mother of Kenneth (Loretta) Reed, Carrie (Steve) Smith and Michelle (Jim) Mastrangelo; cherished grandmother of Jamie (Jason) Ewald, Laura Mastrangelo, Adam (Becky) Mastrangelo, Marie Mastrangelo, Amy Poremba, Ryan Smith, Amanda (Thomas) Dragar and David Reed; great-grandmother of Andrew, Ben, Joshua, Liliana, Luca, Anthony, Brielle and Emmy; and sister of Dennis (Trish) Kolpin and Darlene (Gene) Simmons.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert L. and Margaret E. (nee Johnson) Kolpin; and brother, Harlan Kolpin.
Family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio Funeral Home, 6330 Center St. (Route 615, north of Route 2), Mentor. Burial will be in Mentor Cemetery.
