Obituary for George F Farrell
George F. Farrell died April 9, 2016.
He was a professor emeritus at Lake Erie College, where he taught literature and creative writing for 43 years. He travelled frequently, often with his students, visiting London 17 times. His favorite travel destination was Bergen, Norway, because of its beauty. In his spare time George enjoyed reading a lot and writing a little. He also loved trains, both riding them and building models.
George taught and built puppet shows locally. His Punch and Judy Show appeared with the Cleveland Opera Company. His love of puppets and puppetry led to an introduction to Jane and Jim Henson (creators of the Muppets), and dinner with Sergey Obraztsov, the founder of the State Central Puppet Theatre in Moscow. In 1989 George was given the Distinguished Alumni Award by Lake Erie College’s National Alumni Board.
He will be deeply missed by his five sisters and many friends.
A memorial service at the college will be held at a later date.
