Obituary for Catherine C Shields

Funeral Mass for Catherine C. (nee Mrozek) Shields, 86, of Mentor, will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. John Vianney Church, 7575 Bellflower Road, Mentor. Fr. James Roach will officiate the Mass.
Mrs. Shields passed away Monday, May 4, 2015, at her residence in Mentor with her family at her side.
Born Oct. 15, 1928, in Royal, Pa., she had been a Lake County resident for 62 years, living in Eastlake before moving to Mentor.
She was a member of St. John Vianney Church in Mentor and the Polish Women’s Alliance. She enjoyed playing bingo, poker, gardening and the most important part of her life was her love for her family and grandchildren. Family was very, very special.
She was the loving mother of Cynthia, Richard T. (Nubia) Shields Jr., and Janet (Dennis) Starks; cherished grandmother of David (Sheryl) Summers, Lori (Michael) Mercer, Mindy and Ricky Shields, Tyler and Cody Rice; great-grandmother of Zachary, Brianna, Mikey, Adam and Nicholas; sister of Elizabeth Riggan, Frank Mrozek, Henry Mrozek, Raymond Mrozek and Veronica Mrozek; and aunt of many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Richard T. Shields Sr. in 2001; parents, Rudolph and Mary (nee Sape) Mrozek; and siblings, Annie Cetera, John Mrozek, Joseph Mrozek, Agnes Mrozek, Rose Gould, Edward Mrozek, Mary Shaffer and Stella Mrozek.
Family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio Funeral Home, 6330 Center St. (Route 615, north of Route 2), Mentor. Burial will be in Western Reserve Memorial Gardens in Chester Township.
