Obituary for Thomas L. "Mike" Lane

Thomas L. “Mike” of Willoughby, was born in Cleveland, March 31, 1933, to John C. and Mary Ellen (née Kelly) Lane.
Thomas passed away peacefully July 11, 2022.
Thomas “Mike” was a fierce protector and kind teddy bear to his daughters, Kathleen (Geoff) Hanahan and Mary Ellen (Matt) Bujoll; best PAPA ever and guardian in Heaven to Michael Lane, Thomas Hanahan (Chelsea), Daniel Lane, John Hanahan, James Lane, Jessica (Jeff) Gillenwater, Jack Bujoll and Gracie Bujoll and to his great-granddaughter, Layne Louise Gillenwater. He was very proud of each and every one of his grandchildren,
Thomas, “Mike” was preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years, Margaret; son Michael, whom he missed dearly and was looking forward to seeing his “Pal” in Heaven; and infant daughter, Margaret, who has been the ever Angel in the Lane family watching over them all these years.
Uncle Tommy and Uncle Mike was a loving and favorite uncle to all the nieces and nephews of the Lane and Gavin families, relationships he treasured deeply.
Tommy, Mike, Mikey, Uncle Tommy, Uncle Mike, Mr. Lane, T.L. Lane, a man known by many names but loved just the same. He was a great man with great stories, loved by all who knew him. He was very proud to have served in the Army with the 82nd Airborne Division. He proudly carried his wings on his key ring to this day. He was a talented carpenter, and lifelong railroader with New York Central, Penn Central and Conrail trainlines. A career in which he was greatly respected as a “stand up man.” To Buffalo and back he would go, but no matter when he left the train yard; his train always made it back for Christmas morning!
He especially appreciated lifelong friendships, many of which began at St. Aloysius and last to this day. Mike and Margaret had a wonderful circle of sincere and loving friends that were a very important part of their lives, a special gift they shared with their children. Mike and Margaret truly taught their children the meaning of friendship He enjoyed life, whether with his family and grandchildren, with the McGarry’s and his “Little Buddy” Paddy, the St. Al’s crew, the Lane golf outing, the Railroaders, his pals at Spuddy’s and Jerry’s Tavern, the Arrowhead Shore Club, the Tioga Trail families, Estate Sales, and telling stories, lots and lots of great stories!
Get ready Heaven, Mr. Lane is on his way!
