Funeral Mass for Sue Marie Somnitz, 90, of Lyndhurst, will be 12 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, at Divine Word Church, 8100 Eagle Road, Kirtland. Fr. Dave Woost will officiate.
Sue passed away Saturday, Dec. 3, 2022, at Mapleview Country Villa in Chardon.
Born Oct. 9, 1932, in Cleveland, she had been a resident of Lyndhurst for 82 years.
She attended Divine Word Church in Kirtland and a former member of St. Clare’s Church in Lyndhurst and St. Paschal Baylon Church. She was also a member of MENSA and enjoyed knitting.
Sue was a graduate of St. John’s Hospital School of Nursing and had a long career of more than 70 years in nursing. She had worked at University Hospitals, Cleveland Clinic and for more than 60 years at Huron Road Hospital.
She was the loving sister of George J. Somnitz and William J. (Sally) Somnitz; beloved aunt of Beth A. (Todd) Lukemire, Matt Somnitz, Jennifer (Eukpee) Lloyd, Robert J. (Lisa) Somnitz, Stephen (Cathy) Somnitz, Kathleen (Dr. Michael) Gallichio, Jennifer Caim and John Paul Somnitz; great-aunt of 13; and great-great-aunt of two.
Sue was preceded in death by her parents, George J. and Agnes R. (nee Koch) Somnitz; and sister-in-law, Jane Somnitz.
Family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until the time of the Mass Saturday at church. Burial will be in All Souls Cemetery in Chardon Township.
