Obituary for Ruth Ann Johnson
Ruth Ann (nee Wells) Johnson, 82, of Mentor, passed away Friday, April 8, 2022, at her home surrounded by her two children.
She was born Sept. 7, 1939, in Coshocton to the late Ned C. and Grace (nee Smailes) Wells.
In 1962, Ruth obtained her Bachelor’s degree home economics at Ohio University before becoming a teacher. She spent her later years working as a buyer at BARD medical device company and then retired a second time to work at Kohl’s department store until she was 79.
Her proudest achievement was being a mother to her children and she actively attended their extracurricular activities and aided in carpool when they were little. Ruth was a longtime active member of Mentor United Methodist Church. She also enjoyed walking her dog, riding her bike and spent many hours reading.
Ruth is survived by her children, Michael Scott Johnson of Highland, Ind., and Christina Lynn Henline-Wells (Johnson) of Mentor; grandson, Michael Matthew Johnson; granddaughter, Michelle Alyson Johnson; brother, Richard C. Wells of Coshocton; and several nieces and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and cherished sister, Marjorie MacFarland.
Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Tuesday, April 19, at Mentor United Methodist Church, 8600 Mentor Ave., Mentor. A funeral service will follow at 4 p.m. Pastor Barb Holzhauser will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in her name are suggested to the Lake Humane Society, 7565 Tyler Blvd., Mentor, OH 44060 or to Mentor United Methodist Church.
