Obituary for Robert D Thompson
Robert D. Thompson, 87, of Eastlake, passed away Saturday, Jan. 22, 2022, at his residence.
Born Dec. 7, 1934, in Fremont, he had been a resident of Lake County for 57 years, living in Mentor and Painesville before moving to Eastlake.
Robert enjoyed Bluegrass music and astronomy, loved golf and watching football.
Mr. Thompson retired as a District Supervisor from the East Ohio Gas Company.
Robert was the loving father of Daniel L. (Lourie) Thompson, Cheryl A. Knotts, Jeffrey A. (Debra) Thompson, and Mark E. (Carol) Thompson; cherished grandfather of eight; great-grandfather of 10; dear brother of Terry (Charlene) Thompson; loving companion of Joanne S. Duva; and uncle of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Carolyn M. (nee Lutz) Thompson in 2009; son, Robert D. Thompson Jr.; son-in-law, Robert Knotts; and parents, Gerald and Ellen (nee Crigger) Thompson.
Family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio Funeral Home, 38001 Euclid Ave., Willoughby, with a Celebration of Life service at 7:30 p.m. Burial will be 12:30 p.m. Thursday at Rose Hill Burial Park, 3653 W. Market St., Akron. (Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home by 11 a.m. to process to the cemetery.)
