Obituary for Margaret A "Maggie" Ward

Margaret A. “Maggie” (nee Carns) Ward, 79, formerly of Concord Township, passed away March 11, 2021 in Euclid, surrounded by her family.
Maggie was the loving wife of 52 years to Tom Ward; devoted mother of Michele (John) Baker, Thomas (John Caccia), Sean (Kristi), Katie (Todd) Kirschner, and Kevin (Tina); and proud grandmother of Erin, Sarah, Michael, Abby, John, Kelly, Finn, Livi, Melanie, Megan, Arlo, Bridget, and Ames. She is also survived by brothers, James (Lois) and Lawrence (Sandra) Carns; sister-in-law, Patricia (William) Coyne; brother-in-law, Robert (Rosemary) Ward; and many nieces and nephews.
Maggie was born October 23, 1941, in Jonesboro, Arkansas to Frank and Ruth (nee Colegrove) Carns, then moved to Strongsville, as a young girl. In addition to her devotion to her faith, Maggie cared deeply about issues of interfaith exchange, social justice, poverty, hunger and homelessness. She was an active volunteer of St. Vincent DePaul, Habitat for Humanity, Project Hope for the Homeless, St. Bede’s soup kitchens, and St. Noel’s Neighbor to Neighbor dinners.
She was a hands-on grandmother, who clocked in many babysitting hours, filled her weekends with youth sporting events, and cherished family camping trips and any opportunity to be with her loved ones young and old. She enjoyed traveling and was an avid gardener, who transformed her backyards into green and flowering oases.
Maggie was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Frank and Carl; and infant sister, Rose.
Thank you to her niece, Dana Carns, for all of her love and support. And special thanks to Alla, Cindy, Nina and the rest of the Care Your Way team, whose caretaking was kind and gentle.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday at McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio Funeral Home, 38001 Euclid Ave., Willoughby. A funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Monday, March 15, at St. Noel Church, 35200 Chardon Road, Willoughby Hills. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Brook Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in memory of Maggie to St. Vincent DePaul.
