Obituary for Margaret "Sue" Batig

Margaret “Sue” (nee Maher) Batig, 78, of Mayfield Heights, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2022, at Fairmount Healthcare Center in Willoughby.
Born Aug. 8, 1943, in Pittsburgh, Pa., she had lived in Chesterland for 30 years before moving to Cuyahoga County in 1997.
Margaret was a stay-at-home mom for many years before rejoining the work force and working as an administrative assistant in small businesses in Chesterland and Mayfield Village. In 2020 during the pandemic, she finally retired from the DMV in Chesterland. Margaret was a member and attended Life House Church in Leroy Township the last few years. Prior to that, she was a member and served faithfully behind the scenes for decades at Willoughby Hills Friends Church and New Promise Church in Kirtland in the Divorce Recovery Ministry, Singles Again, greeting and ushering, and Hospitality and Kitchen Ministries for special events throughout the year. She longed to live out 2 Corinthians 1:4 “He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us.” She wanted others to see Jesus as a comfort and guide in their circumstances and a quiet place to receive wisdom, strength and peace for the tough roads ahead and often encouraged others through “If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you.” James 1:5
She was the loving mother of David W. Batig, Colleen S. (Jerry) Fielding, Sharon R. Batig and Kathy L. (Ash) Bell; cherished grandmother of Katie (Vince), Rebekah (Jake), Lydia (fiancé, Brandon), Sarah, Corban, Grayson, Ryan, Hannah (Isaac), Noah (Kacie), and J.C.; great-grandmother of Paisley, Adleigh and Asher; dear sister of Robert (Charlotte) Maher; and aunt of nieces and nephews.
Margaret was preceded in death by her son, David W. Batig; former husband, Richard W. Batig in 2021; and parents, Robert and Margaret (nee Stauffer) Maher.
Family will receive friends from 3 to 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 11, at The Abbey of Willoughby, 38011 Euclid Ave. (located on the grounds of McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio Funeral Home), in Willoughby, where a funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 12. Burial will be private.
If you have a story you would like to share about Sue or how she impacted you, please bring it written down to share or to leave with the family. If you would like to share, please be ready for a brief couple minute speech to share during a time of remembering. Her children realize her impact to others was often in kind and quiet moments. Your gift of honoring her impact and presence in your life is one her children long to hear and receive.
