Funeral Mass for Lydia Schick, 90, of Mentor, will be 10 a.m. Monday, April 3, 2023, at St. Bede the Venerable Church, 9114 Lakeshore Blvd., Mentor.
Lydia passed away Sunday, March 26, 2023, at Altercare of Canton.
She was born Feb. 8, 1933, in Kilianshof, Germany.
Lydia worked hard all of her life, including jobs at Deepwood Center, Sears, Casual Corner and the Bolton Estate.
Family was most precious to her. She was always the one to host get-togethers, picnics and holiday celebrations. Lydia always sent cards and letters and she loved everyone so much, and they loved her. She will be dearly missed, may she rest in peace.
Lydia was the loving mother of Rick J. Schick (Kevin Holcomb) of Canton, Helmuth E. Schick of Middlefield, and John A. Schick (Ilene Rousch); cherished grandmother of Thomas A. Schick of Mentor, David A. Schick (Julia Hazen) of Mentor, and Sandra A. (Pasquale) Iacavone of Inwood, W.Va.; great-grandmother of Grace, Carter and Corey; dear sister of Robert (Margit) and Rosi (Heinz), all of Germany; aunt of Susan Varga-Pelka, Karen (Schmitt) McQuilkin, Lisa (Schmitt) Anderson, Fred Schmitt, Robert (Kristin) Schmitt, Norbert (Deborah) Pelka, Thomas Schmitt, Gilbert Schmitt, Karola, Lydia, Christof, Heika, Sonia, Birgit, Karl Heinz, Michael (Christa) Glatz; great-aunt of Eric Pelka, John Pelka, Katelyn Turner, Adrienne Pelka, Louise, Selina, Magdalena, Bryan Schmitt, Erika, Kathleen and Joshua Schmitt, Erich and Calli Schmitt, Josh Glatz, Brandon Glatz, C.J. and Evan Frank; cousin of Rita Frank and Roberta Rein; dearest friend of Christa Harmadi of Buckeye, Ariz.; mother-in-law of Linda J. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Richard; parents, Alfons and Maria Schmitt; siblings, Anton, Josef, Rudolf, Erwin, Fritz, Getrude and Rita; mother-in-law and father-in-law, John and Elisabeth Schick; sister-in-law, Elfreide (Schick) Glatz; niece and nephews, Ronald, Gerhart, Audrey Pelka and John Glatz.
Burial will follow the Mass at Western Reserve Memorial Gardens in Chester Township.
