Obituary for Lloyd Allen Wittenmyer Jr.

Lloyd Allen Wittenmyer Jr., 87, of Mentor, passed away Sept. 1, 2022, at his home.
Born Oct. 14, 1934, in Cleveland, he was the son of the late Lloyd and Anna (nee Mudra) Wittenmyer.
He attended Mound Elementary School, Kirk Junior High School, and graduated from Shaw High School, where he was an excellent baseball and basketball varsity player. He was once chosen to be Sandlot Star of the Week.Lloyd received a bachelor of science degree from Ohio University and a master’s degree in chemistry from Western Reserve University. He was a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity and Powder Bowl King at Ohio University.
Mr. Wittenmyer worked at Lubrizol for 42 years, starting in the lab as a chemist then becoming senior sales engineer receiving multiple awards over the years.
Lloyd was a baptized believer in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and has eternal life with Jesus in Heaven (Mark 16:16). He was a faithful member of Mt. Olive Evangelical Lutheran Church Missouri Synod, English District for 65 years serving as Sunday school teacher for over 40 years and held many offices in the congregation, including president. He also served on numerous boards including God’s Word to the Nations, Fort Wayne Seminary President’s Advisory Council (PAC), Lutheran Heritage Foundation (of which he was a founding member), and Concordia Theological Foundation.
He is survived by his daughters, Rev. Janet Wittenmyer of Willard and Laura (Bob) Vollman of Mentor; son, Lloyd (Lanny) Wittenmyer III of Austinburg; four granddaughters, Tiffany Wittenmyer of Lakewood, Katherine and Amber Wittenmyer of Euclid, and Christina Vollman of Mentor; five grandsons, Patrick Wittenmyer of Lakewood, Chris Wittenmyer of Rock Creek, Gabriel and Nathaniel Hoerger of Chicago, and Robert Vollman of Mentor; six great-grandchildren, Ashlee, CJ, Brycen, Abrionna, Micah, and Mia; brothers, John (Betsy) Wittenmyer of Houston, Bill (Marilyn) Wittenmyer of Strongsville; sister-in-law, Barbara Wittenmyer of Austinburg; and many nieces and nephews.
Lloyd was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sharon on May 15, 2022; brothers, Nelson, Richard, and Donald, sister-in-law, Marilyn Gell; and brother-in-law, Patrick Hanratty.
Family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 9, at McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio Funeral Home, 6330 Center St. (Route 615, north of Route 2), in Mentor. A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 10 at St. John Nottingham Lutheran Church, 17403 Nottingham Rd., Cleveland, officiated by Pastors Jonathan McCall and Walther Marcis. Visitation will also be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at church. Burial will follow at Mentor Municipal Cemetery.
