Obituary for Leona C Cunningham
Funeral Mass for Leona C. (nee Anselmo) Cunningham, 90, of Mentor-on-the-Lake, will be 11 a.m. Friday at St. John Vianney Church, 7575 Bellflower Road, Mentor. Fr. Tom Johns will officiate.
Leona passed away Thursday, Oct. 6, 2022, at Hospice House of the Western Reserve in Cleveland.
Born Jan. 10, 1932, in Cleveland, she had been a resident of Lake County for 69 years.
She was a member of St. John Vianney Church in Mentor, a member of Dying Embers Women’s Auxiliary, and a graduate of John Adams High School in Cleveland. Leona devoted her life to taking care of family. Her family, family gatherings, family traditions, friendships, and her faith were the most important to her.
Mrs. Cunningham was a retired school bus driver with 32 years of service with the Mentor School System.
She was the loving mother of Charles J. Cunningham (Dawn Brown), and Dona L. (Darryl) Cox; cherished grandmother of Kelly L. Cunningham, Frank C. Cunningham (Erica Coffee), and Stephen M. Cox (Emily Warnock); sister-in-law of Vincetta Anselmo; and cherished aunt of nieces and nephews.
Leona was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Donald L. Cunningham; son, baby boy Cunningham; parents, Charles and Jennie (nee Mancuso) Anselmo; and brother, Joseph Anselmo.
Family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio Funeral Home, 6330 Center St. (Route 615, north of Route 2), in Mentor. Private burial will be held in Mentor Cemetery.
