Obituary for Karen M Dawson

Mass of Christian Burial for Karen M. (nee Grace) Dawson, RN, BSN, 79, of Mentor, will be 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 10, at St. John Vianney Church, 7575 Bellflower Road, Mentor. OH 44060.
Karen passed away April 23, 2022, after a brief illness.

She worked at Euclid General Hospital until the birth of her first son, Patrick. After raising Patrick and then Christopher, she returned to work, first at physician’s offices, and then Broadmoor School in Mentor, eventually becoming the school nurse, where she spent 30 years. Required later in her career to earn her BSN, Karen earned her degree at Cleveland State University while working full-time, she earned her degree in 1993 graduating with a 4.0 GPA, a fact she proudly reminded her children, who had attended college full-time without the distraction of work, and did not earn a similar average. After retiring in 2007, she and John became active as volunteers of the St. Vincent de Paul Society at St. John Vianney Parish in Mentor, and in the church’s food pantry, continuing up until the time of her passing.
Karen is survived by her husband, John; sons, Patrick (Robin) and Christopher (Sarah); and grandchildren, Jack, Claire, and Grace.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Marcella Grace.
Family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, May 9, at McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio Funeral Home, 6330 Center St. (Route 615, north of Route 2), in Mentor. A brunch will follow the Mass in the parish hall. Private interment will be at Lake View Cemetery in Cleveland.
