Obituary for Karen Ann Carter

With deep love and sorrow the passing of Karen A. (nee Young) Carter, 61, of Mentor is mourned by her loved ones and friends. Karen entered into the Lord’s arms Dec. 25, 2022, after a lengthy, but well fought 12 year battle with breast cancer.
She was born Jan. 18, 1961, in Cleveland to the late Joseph and Ruth (nee Lueck) Young.
Karen was a woman of deep faith, a gentle soul, always kind and helpful to those she met, and a laid back peacemaker. She was a work magnet, conscientious and easy to work with, caring and thorough, and went above and beyond what was asked of her. She had a huge passions for anything chocolate, a love for music, and enjoyed embroidering, fishing, taking motorcycle trips and gardening. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and friends.
After graduating from Lake Catholic High School, Karen went on to study at Lakeland Community College, earning her Associate’s Degree in Applied Science. She then attended Ursuline College completing her Bachelor of Arts. Karen started at Lake Hospital System in 1982, kick starting a 40-year career as a medical laboratory technician. She was a member of the St. Bede’s Church and belonged to the St. Bede’s Dough Raisers ministry. Karen’s smile and laughter will always be fondly remembered.
Her memory will be treasured by her longtime partner, Mike Bartholomew; cherished children, Sarah, Andrew (Meghan), and Ian; dear sister, Diana (Rich) Harvey; and her many nieces and nephews.
Family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 29, at McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio Funeral Home, 6330 Center St. (Route 615, north of Route 2), in Mentor.
A celebration of her life will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 30, at St. Bede the Venerable, 9114 Lakeshore Blvd., Mentor. Fr. Timothy Plavac will officiate.
