Joseph Anthony Faraldo, 90, entered into eternity Dec. 19, 2020.
He was born Oct. 8, 1930, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Rose and Charles Faraldo.
Joe graduated from St. John's University in 1951, and joined the U.S. Air Force. In the Air Force, he was sent to a program at East Texas State Teachers College, where he met Marian Stacy and they were married June 1, 1952. Joe was commissioned a Lieutenant in the Air Force before he was honorably discharged, and he and Marian started their family.
Faith and family were most important to Joe. From the beginning of his 68 year marriage, Joe demonstrated his devotion to his family by prioritizing visits to Texas, where he was always ready to help out on his wife’s family’s farm. As years went on, Joe was an attentive father to his three children, Mark, Laura and Diane, and steadfastly supported his mother when she became a widow. Most recently, Joe’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren had been the joy of his life, and Joe included each of them in his daily rosaries.
Joe lived his life by the principle of “noblesse oblige,” and his integrity earned him positions in the NYPD Youth Division and the Bureau of Special Services and Investigations, where he escorted and protected visiting foreign dignitaries. After retiring from the NYPD, Joe embarked on a career in campus law enforcement as Chief of Police at SUNY Binghamton and at Cleveland State.
A resident of Mentor since 1976, Joe loved St. Bede the Venerable Catholic Church, where he participated in Men’s Bible Study, Knights of Columbus and various committees in his retirement years.
Joe was and is deeply loved by his wife Marian; sister, Mary Miller; children, Mark (Mary) Faraldo, Laura (Jim) Fruscella, and Diane (Walt) Spaulding; grandchildren, Stacy (David) Groomes, Nicole (Mike) Sinacore, Daniel (Kayla) Fruscella, Sarah Spaulding, Amelia Spaulding, Matthew Faraldo and Katherine Faraldo; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his grandson, Nicholas Faraldo.
Private visitation will be held. Burial will be in Mentor Cemetery.
Arrangements are entrusted to McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio Funeral Homes in Willoughby and Mentor.
