Obituary for Jean D Blank

Funeral Mass for Jean D. (nee Gramling) Blank, 90, of Houston, Texas, will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 2, 2023, at St. Bede the Venerable Church, 9114 Lakeshore Blvd., Mentor.
Jean passed away Monday, Jan. 23, 2023, at Loving Seniors Care Center in Houston.
Born May 2, 1932, in South Fork, Pa., she had lived in Mentor for 60 years before recently moving to Houston.
Jean was a founding member of St. Bede the Venerable Parish in Mentor. She was a homemaker and the best wife and mom her husband and four children could ask for. She took great pride in having home cooked meals promptly on the table at 5 p.m. every evening. She never missed a single baseball game of her children or grandchildren and was their number one fan. In her youth, she played trumpet in the marching band and was an exceptional swimmer. Jean enjoyed going to the movies with her sister-in-law, Mitzie and grandchildren. She watched her husband bowl for many years, and at 70 years old, she started bowling and loved it so much she joined two leagues at Palisades. She was an avid gardener, who loved her rose bushes and was a staple at Sterling Morton playground with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She always made sure to make her grandchildren and great-grandchildren feel special by her thoughtfulness and caring and by keeping her fridge stocked with Little Hugs drinks and popsicles. She will be remembered for her loving kindness, willingness to help her children, families, friends and neighbors, her sweet giggle, and her famous Pop Tart sandwich.
She is survived by her loving children, Christine (Randy) Thacker, Roxanne Shiner and Ronald (Ruthann) Blank; “Gramma” to her grandchildren, Brandy, Mark, Tina, Windy, Amelia, and Laura; great-grandchildren, who affectionately call her “GG,” Andrea, Michael, AJ, Aidan, Addison, Winter and Helena; in-laws, Lawrence and Jenny Blank, and Helen Speicher; and many nieces, nephews and friends, including her dearest friend, Mary Spalding.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 59 years, Robert L., whom she married Oct. 5, 1954, at St. Gregory the Great Church in Johnstown, Pa.; son, Robert A.; son-in-law, Edwin Shiner; parents, Homer and Evelyn (nee Dunmyer) Gramling; sister, Faye (Bill) Glacken; and in-laws, Dorothy (Robert) Bolvin, Eugene (Bernie) Blank, Leona (Herm) Weller, Mildred (Delmar) Meeks, Irene (Fay) Fyock, Luke Speicher.
Family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2023, at McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio Funeral Home, 6330 Center St. (Route 615, north of Route 2), in Mentor. Burial will be in Western Reserve Memorial Gardens in Chester Township.
