Obituary for Irene R Weber

Irene R. (nee Scanlon) Weber, 85, passed away Oct. 17, 2022, after a long battle with Alzheimers.
She was born Jan. 11, 1937.
After graduating from Villa Angela in 1954, Rene became an Ursuline nun, Sister Charles Borromeo, before leaving the convent after a decade of teaching. Later, she met and married George and started her family. She earned her Master’s degree in Education from Ursuline College in 1967 and worked for over 22 years for the Diocese of Cleveland, where she retired as the Director of Nutrition Services in 1999. Rene started the first Head Start program in Cleveland and was an advocate in Washington, DC for affordable and healthy children’s food programs. She never met a stranger and was a fun person who loved her family, friends and her Irish heritage.
Irene was the beloved wife of George; loving mother of Tom (Carolyn) and Jim (Kari); and dear grandmother of Connor, Chris and Elliott. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends who she cherished.
Rene was the youngest of nine children of the late Thomas E. and Mabel M. (nee Boud) Scanlon. As the last to pass in her family, she was preceded in death by Alice W. Scanlon, Thomas B. Scanlon, Mabel (Jack) Ray, Charles Scanlon, James R. (Vivian) Scanlon, Catherine E. Straka, Hettie J. (Edward) Durand and Beatrice A. (Casimir) Choromanski.
