Obituary for Hugh James "Bud" Carroll III

Funeral Mass for Hugh James “Bud” Carroll III, 87, Mentor, formerly of Willoughby, will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Immaculate Conception Church, 37940 Euclid Ave., Willoughby. Father Tom Johns will officiate the Mass.
Born Oct. 12, 1934, in Wheeling, W.Va., Bud died Friday, March 4, 2022.
Bud graduated from Central Catholic High School, where he was an outstanding all-around athlete, especially in basketball, was West Virginia All-State athlete in 1953, served in the U.S. Navy as a Corpsman and played football while stationed in Hawaii. Bud was an avid golfer and a devoted Catholic, participating in Eucharistic adorations every Wednesday night for many years, and loved spending time with his eight children.
Mr. Carroll worked for Fisher Foods until his retirement in 1995.
Bud was the loving father of Jim (Jodi) of Willoughby, Terri (Jim) Frishgesell of Medina, Mark of Mentor, Paula Trefzger of Columbia, S.C., Bridget (Craig) Corder of Painesville, Katie (Mike) Valenti of Willowick, Ed (Kelly) Cincinnati, and Paul (Melanie) of Westlake; cherished “Pop-Pop” to 20 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren with one-on-the-way; dear brother of Jim (Rosemarie) Carroll of Warwood, W.Va., and Marge Mucheck of South Dakota.
He was preceded in death by the love of his life for 54 years, Suzanne; and parents, Hugh J. Jr. and Elizabeth Carroll.
Family will receive friends from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday at McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio Funeral Home, 38001 Euclid Ave., Willoughby. Burial will be in All Souls Cemetery in Chardon Township.
