Obituary for Helene Glavan

The children of Helene Glavan are sad to announce the passing of their beautiful mother. She left this world Friday, Feb. 25, 2022.
She was born at home in the Collinwood neighborhood at the St. Vitus Church Parrish, (a Slovenian neighborhood) on the east side of Cleveland in 1920.
Mrs. Glavan was a graduate of the Notre Dame Academy in Cleveland. In the 1940s, after completing the Dyke College Business School program, she worked as a secretary for an investment firm in downtown Cleveland. She had voted in every presidential election since FDR.
Helene was beautiful and very stylish. While raising her three children in Madison, she became the office manager for the family doctor, Dr. Donald Hampton, D.O. and then worked for Judge Skok in the Lake County Courthouse in Painesville, specializing in adoptions. She retired to Plant City, Fla., where she discovered the art of quilt making and during those years she created some of the most beautifully designed and executed works of fiber arts.
She was an active member of the St. Clement Catholic Church in Plant City. Her generosity also extended to the many personal charities she supported. Helene was presented with a 1000 Hour Volunteer Citation by the South Florida Baptist Hospital. In 1995, she returned to northeast Ohio to be closer to her family. At the time of her passing, she was under the excellent care of Hospice of Western Reserve at the David Simpson House.
Helene was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Mary Lautizar; siblings, Hermine (Joseph) Babic and Mary Jo (John) Bandi; and nephew, Tim Babic.
She is survived by her children, Barbara (Frank) Kickel, Jim Glavan, YuJung Shen, and Mary Glavan; and brother, Louis (Susan) Lautizar.
The family requests no flowers, please.
Arrangements are entrusted to McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio Funeral Homes in Willoughby and Mentor.
