Obituary for George Vitalone

Funeral Mass for George Vitalone, 90, will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Immaculate Conception Church, 37940 Euclid Ave., Willoughby.
George passed away Feb. 9, 2022, surrounded by family in Mentor.
George was born Sept. 7, 1931, in Sinopoli, Calabria Italy. He immigrated across the Atlantic Ocean to New York Harbor in 1948. George returned to Italy in 1956, and married Tina Taurino in Pompeii, Italy. George traveled back to America on the Andrea Doria two months after the wedding, followed by Tina one year later on the Cristoforo Colombo. They settled in Willoughby, where they built a family and lived out the American dream.
George started his career working at the Kirtland Country Club, later moving to TRW, where he retired after 26 years. He enjoyed teaching his children and grandchildren his many skills, including growing grapes that were used to make homemade wine. George and his grandsons made wine annually, a tradition that will carry for many generations to come. He also loved gardening, and grew many fruits and vegetables that the family enjoyed.
He was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus and faithful to his God and Catholic Church. Pasta Sundays and family get togethers were the highlights of his life. The three principles that George lived by were hard work, courage, and family. Those principles were instilled in his children and grandchildren, and will live on long after his passing.
George is survived by his wife, Tina (nee Taurino) Vitalone; son, Antonio (Diane) Vitalone; daughters, Maria Vitalone, Domenica (Gary) Mehalic, Josephina (Larry) Puskas, and Rosina (Chuck) Campbell; grandchildren, Holly (Mike) DiRauso, Branden (Marne) Campbell, Morgan (Nick) Kubala, Gary (Kayla) Mehalic Jr., Ryan (Raechel) Campbell, Victor Puskas, Nicholas (Erin) Moses, Monica (Nick) Canganelli, Joseph Moses, Carlo Puskas, and Anthony Moses; and great-grandchildren, Camron Campbell, Gianna DiRauso, Aria Campbell, Luca DiRauso, Logan Campbell, Maria Canganelli, Amelia Moses, Nicolina Canganelli.
He was preceded in death by parents, Antonio and Maria Vitalone; brother and sister-in-law, Bruno and Rita Vitalone; brother, Carmen (Grace) Vitalone; and nephew, Joseph Vitalone.
Family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio Funeral Home, 38001 Euclid Ave. Willoughby. Entombment will be in All Souls Cemetery in Chardon Township.
