Obituary for George L Gamber

Funeral Mass for George L. Gamber, 75, of Mentor, will be 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. John Vianney Church, 7575 Bellflower Road, Mentor. Father Tom Johns will officiate.
George passed away March 4, 2022, at his residence.
He was born May 15, 1946, in Cleveland the son of Michael J. and Marie R. (nee Tumbry) Gamber.
George grew up in Euclid and graduated from St. Joseph High School Class of 1964. He then enlisted in the U.S. Army and served two tours overseas, one in Germany and the other in Vietnam. George was very proud of his military service.
After his discharge from the military, he became of pipefitter and was a member of Pipefitters Union Local 120 for 53 years. In 1977, George was elected to the Willoughby City Council and served three terms as a Ward Councilman at Large and as Council President. He was a member of the American Legion, AmVets, a life member of the D.A.V. and VFW Post 7754, where he also had served as Post Commander from 2007-2009. In 2007, he joined the staff at the Lake County Service Commission and worked there until he retired in 2020.
The family wishes to thank Hospice of the Western Reserve for their care and loved extended to George and his family.
George is survived by his loving wife, Connie (nee Klima) Pastorius Gamber; children and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Michael T.; and late wife, Kari (nee Cox).
Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio Funeral Home, 38001 Euclid Ave., Willoughby. Burial will follow the Mass at Riverside Cemetery in Painesville.
