Genevieve P. (nee Pertz) McCarty, born Jan. 18, 1924, died May 26, 2021. She had a big heart for others, a feisty spirit, and a great love for the truth. She was cheerful without complaint and had a great sense of humble gratitude.
She was a devout Catholic, who greatly promoted the Rosary devotion as a Blue Army member and made countless numbers of cord Rosaries for our soldiers during the Vietnam War era.
Genevieve was the loving mother of John McCarty, Frank McCarty, Dan (Martha) McCarty, Mary Jo (Tom) Janson, Theresa Hodgson, Paul (Deb) McCarty, Margaret Chinchar, Kay (Jim) Kocisko; cherished grandmother of 37; and great-grandmother of 66.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John T. McCarty in 2014; daughter, Ann Powell; daughter-in-law, Viola McCarty; son-in-law, Bill Hodgson; grandson, Aaron McCarty; parents, Joseph and Pauline (nee Kikel) Pertz; and siblings, Rev. John Pertz; Bernadette Martell; and Isabel Manderbach.
Family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio Funeral Home, 38001 Euclid Ave., Willoughby. The family invites everyone to join in the Rosary at 6 p.m. Funeral Mass will be 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at Immaculate Conception Church, 37940 Euclid Ave., Willoughby. Burial will be at All Souls Cemetery in Chardon Township.
