Obituary for Frederick Otto "Fred" Nickel Jr.

Funeral Mass for Frederick Otto Nickel Jr., 79, of Mentor, will be 9:30 a.m. Saturday, May 6, 2023, at St. John Vianney Church, 7575 Bellflower Road, Mentor. (Family and friends are asked to meet at church.)
Fred passed away Friday, April 28, 2023.
Born Aug. 28, 1943, in Cleveland, he had been a resident of Lake County for 25 years, living in Willoughby before moving to Mentor.
He was an avid golfer, and bowler, having received a 25-year pin with the ABC Tournament and had bowled several 300 games.
Mr. Nickel was a former employee of Meyer Snowplow, Systemation, Addressograph-Multigraph, and in the 1960s, he worked part-time as head cashier at Cleveland Stadium.
Fred was the loving father of Therese A. Nickel Naelitz and Kathleen Marie (Eric) Nickel Jaworsky; devoted longtime partner of Trudy Boergert; cherished grandfather of Steven Naelitz Jr., Zachary Naelitz, Damien Naelitz, Aleena (Omeed) Sabrkhani, Brandon Jaworsky, Nathan Jaworsky and Jacob (Paige) Jaworsky; and brother of Patricia Nickel Riedel and James Otto Nickel.
He was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Scott Naelitz Sr.; parents, Frederick Otto Sr. and Anna (nee Galanda) Nickel; and sister, Joan Nickel.
Family will receive friends from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday at McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio Funeral Home, 6330 Center St. (Route 615, north of Route 2), in Mentor. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Cleveland.
