Obituary for Edward Fletcher Gleason

Edward Fletcher Gleason, 76, of Willoughby, went home to be with our Lord Jesus on Jan. 21, 2021, at The Lantern of Chagrin Valley in Chagrin Falls.
Born Feb. 27, 1944, in Cleveland, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Shaker Heights to Fletcher and Dorothea Gleason, and had been a resident of Willoughby for 21 years.
Ed graduated from Orange High School in Pepper Pike, where he was awarded the Vince Matteucci Award for wrestling. He received his BA degree from Denison University in Granville, where he also wrestled with great success. Attended Officer Candidate School in 1967 and was commissioned as an officer of the United States Navy. Amongst other postings, served with Mobile Inshore Undersea Warfare Group 2 (IUWG-2), serving as Officer in Charge of Mobile Inshore Undersea Warfare Unit 22 (MIUW-22). Ed was honorably discharged in 1971, in the grade of 0-3 (Lieutenant).
He began what would become his life’s work with the Ohio Moulding Corporation (later called OMCO) in 1974 as a sales representative and eventually holding the position of President, CEO, and Chairman of the Board by 1995. He retired from OMCO in 2005. Throughout his life, Ed was an avid kayaker, tennis player, and all-around outdoorsman. His favorite place in the world was the family cottage in the Ontario wilderness, where he spent many a day with his family. In 2013, Ed professed to becoming a born-again Christian, inspired by his beloved wife, Cheryll, Sheila Crawford of Shofar Ministries, and author, Johnathan Cahn “and his stunning book, The Harbinger.”
Ed was the beloved husband of Cheri Lynn (nee Turner) Gleason; loving father of John Edward (Angela) Gleason of Kirtland, Carrie (Steve) Cicione of Fort Collins, Colo., and Darcia Gleason of Maryland; cherished grandfather of Elizabeth, Hannah, and Ryan Cicione and Jessica Wilson; dear brother of Linda Saunders, John (Juanita) Gleason, Patricia Gleason, Kristina (Tom) Karchefsky, and Kelley Gleason; and uncle of Robert (Stefany) Carleton, Caitlin Carleton, Erin Carleton, Casey (Erin) Karchefsky, Daniel (Sarah) Karchefsky, Meghan (McPat) Coyne, and Colleen (Eli) Kovach.
Ed believed strongly in supporting The Special Operations Warrior Foundation, a charity providing educational assistance to the sons and daughters of fallen U.S. Special Operations soldiers.
The family would like to thank the Taussig Cleveland Clinic Cancer Center for giving Ed three more years to be with his family and a special thank you to the Lantern of Chagrin Valley caregivers, who took such amazing care of Eddie.
Arrangements are entrusted to McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio Funeral Homes in Willoughby and Mentor.
