Obituary for Dorothy Mae Slavick

Funeral Mass for Dorothy Mae Slavick, age 96, of Willoughby, will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 9, 2021, at Immaculate Conception Church, 37940 Euclid Ave., Willoughby.
Dorothy passed away peacefully May 30, 2021, because she was ready to be reunited with the “love of her life.”
Born Dec. 7, 1924, in Cleveland, she had been a resident of Willoughby for most of her life.
Anyone who had ever met Dorothy realized she was truly a people person. Material things in life were not very important to her. Relationships were everything. A totally “open door policy” was the way it was for decades at her Willoughby home. Come anytime unannounced and stay as long as you would like. Let’s talk…maybe a drink, and a few laughs.
Dorothy had an inappropriate and sarcastic side. However, most people could see past that and loved her regardless. There was an unexplainable “it-type” factor she had.
She was the loving mother of Dianne (John) Vanas, Edward (Jackie), Mark (Patrice), Dave (Carol), and Dean (Janelle); cherished grandmother of 12; and great-grandmother of 16.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 73 years, Edward S. Slavick; parents, George and Lillian (nee Daugherty) Catterall; and her sister, Georgia Schilling, whom she adored.
Family will receive friends for a memorial gathering and a celebration of her life from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass at the church.
