Obituary for Christ Yanacos

Christ Yanacos, 88, of Mentor, passed away Thursday, May 4, 2023, at UH TriPoint Medical Center in Concord Township.
Born Feb. 25, 1935, in Canfield, he had lived in the Grovewood neighborhood before moving to Lake County more than 40 years ago.
Christ was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Post 1056 in Euclid, International Police Association, Blue Knights Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club, American Legion Post 888, AmVets Ohio 109, Korean War Veterans Chapter 112, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles on E. 185th Street in Cleveland. He thrived on being an active participant and served on many boards of the organizations he belonged to. He loved classic cars, riding motorcycles and dining at all types of restaurants, but above all, his grandchildren were the light of his life.
Mr. Yanacos was a retired Lake County Sheriff, an over-the-road truck driver and had worked as a service manager at a variety of auto dealerships in his younger years.
Christ was the beloved husband of 65 years to Elizabeth A. (nee Bullock) Yanacos; loving father of Christine A. (John) Shkil and Suzanne (Anthony) DiStaulo; cherished grandfather of Brittney (Andrew) Koff, Nicholas DiStaulo and Christopher Shkil; dear brother of James “Jimmy” (Margy) Yanacos and Frances (Dardo) Torti; and uncle of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Arvena (nee DiCerbo) Yanacos.
Family will receive friends from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio Funeral Home, 6330 Center St. (Route 615, north of Route 2), in Mentor, with a Celebration of Life service at 7 p.m. Burial will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
