Obituary for Carl J Janz Jr.

Funeral services for Carl J. Janz Jr., 80, of Mentor, will be 10 a.m. Monday at McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio Funeral Home, 6330 Center St. (Route 615, north of Route 2), Mentor.
Mr. Janz passed away Wednesday, May 4, 2016, at The Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland.
He was born June 11, 1935, in Willoughby.
Carl was a member of the Heisley Racquet Club, member of Lake County F.O.P. Lodge No. 16, and a U.S. Army veteran. He loved his 2002 pick-up truck and enjoyed his woodworking shop making birdhouses. He also loved his grandchildren and fixing toys for them.
Mr. Janz was a veteran of the Mentor Police Department for 25 years, retiring in 1987, a veteran of the Waite Hill Police Department for seven years, and had worked for the Lake County Sheriff’s Department for four years.
He was the beloved husband of 58 years to Joan K. (nee Wise) Janz; loving father of C. David (Shelley) Janz and Debra L. (Ken) Blankenship; cherished grandfather of Brandon Scott, Tyler Janz, and Ryan Janz; brother of Donald E. (nee Sandy) Janz, Rita M. Long and Kenneth J. Janz; brother-in-law of Neil (Alice) Wise and Kevin (Lisa) Halberg; and uncle of many nieces and nephews.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents, Carl J. Sr. and Agnes (nee Wasniak) Janz; sister, Jean Mattingly; and brother-in-law, Dennis Long.
Family will receive friends from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mentor Cemetery.
