Obituary for William D "Doug" Martin
William D. “Doug” Martin, 75, of Mentor, passed away Monday, June 12, 2023, at Hospice House of the Western Reserve in Cleveland.
Born March 20, 1948, in Boone County, W.Va., he had lived in West Virginia and Cleveland before moving to Lake County nine years ago.
Doug loved sports and watching the Cleveland Indians. He also enjoyed life and being with his family.
Mr. Martin was a retired employee of Universal Metal Products in Wickliffe, where he had worked as a machinist.
Doug was the beloved husband of 45 years to Shelia L. (nee Burdette) Martin; loving father of Steven D. (Rosemary) Martin and Candyce L. (William) Oakes; cherished grandfather of Travis Williams; dear brother of Barbara Ann Thompson, Margaret Rae Martin, Virgil N. (Judy) Martin, and Steve L. Martin (Linda Blake); son-in-law of Mabel Burdette; and uncle of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son, Robert Lee (Dorothy, dec.) Martin; parents, Virgil N. and Margaret D. (nee Billups) Martin; and brothers-in-law, Donald Thompson and William Martin.
Family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio Funeral Home, 6330 Center St. (Route 615, north of Route 2), in Mentor, with a Celebration of Life service at 7:30 p.m. Burial will be private.
