Obituary for Ruth E Odell

Ruth E. (nee Stevenson) Odell, 96, of Mentor, passed peacefully Jan. 18, 2024.
Born Aug. 26, 1927, in Cleveland, she was the youngest of nine children of Robert and Rebecca (nee Holmes) Stevenson. Ruthie’s parents, along with her six oldest siblings immigrated to the United States from Belfast, Ireland.
Ruthie grew up in Euclid and graduated from Euclid High School. She was proud to be part of the Stevenson Clan, whose family started Euclid's original Stevenson’s Bar at E. 238th St. and Lakeshore Blvd. Ruthie moved to Mentor with her former husband, John K. Odell Sr., and raised their three children. She then returned to the workforce as a fashion consultant in retail women's clothing. Upon retirement, Ruthie remained active as a sought-after nanny to many young families in Lake County. Ruthie will be remembered as a great hostess, having the best cocktail parties and the most amazing Christmas Brunch, a tradition for her extended family for years, along with her spaghetti sauce, chocolate chip cookies, and cakes. Ruthie was a fashionista, always immaculately dressed. She had the most beautiful brown eyes. Ruthie loved being out in the sun, either relaxing poolside or working in her yard. She also loved her dogs and cats and enjoyed traveling to Seattle, where she resided part-time for several years with her son, Jack.
Ruthie is now with her parents; and all her siblings, whom she missed so much, Sadie, Jack, Willie, Harry, Lil, Ruby, Helen and Ileen.
She leaves behind her loving family, including her children, Jack (John Dagres) Odell of Seattle, Wash., Scott (Bonnie Barrett) Odell of Concord Township and Becky (Fred) Leonello of Willoughby; grandchildren, John (Jennifer) Leonello and Steven (Courtney) Leonello; great-grandchildren, Rylee, Brooklyn, Evelyn, and Vanessa Leonello; and many nieces and nephews.
Celebration of Life will be held in the Summer of 2024. A date is yet to be determined. More communications to follow.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of the Western Reserve, 17876 St. Clair Ave., Cleveland, OH 44110 or the Lake Humane Society, 7564 Tyler Blvd., Mentor, OH 44060.
Arrangements are entrusted to McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio Funeral Homes in Willoughby and Mentor.
