Obituary for Mildred G "Millie" Shumar

Memorial Mass for Mildred G. “Millie” Shumar, 93, of Willoughby Hills, will be 10 a.m. Friday, July 1, at Holy Rosary Church, 12021 Mayfield Road, Cleveland. Fr. Joseph Previte will officiate.
Millie passed away Tuesday, June 7, 2022, at Menorah Park in Beachwood.
She was born Sept. 11, 1928, in Carmichaels, Pa.
Millie loved life and was a devout Catholic. She sang in the church choir at Mt. Carmel Church in Wickliffe. Her faith, family, culture and heritage were important to her. She was an avid Jazz fan, and loved music and dancing, especially to the tunes of Dean Martin and Tony Bennett. She lettered in basketball at Cumberland Township High School. Millie loved all things Pittsburgh and was a die-hard Steelers, Pirates and Penguins fan. She also loved watching game shows and doing word searches, cooking, baking and family dinners, but most of all, she adored her grandchildren and being with her family. Teaching young children, whether it was her elementary students or young members of her family, was her passion in life.
She was the loving mother of Dr. Joseph M. (Deborah) Shumar of Lyndhurst; cherished grandmother of Cpt. William T. Shumar (Stephanie Owens) and Brittany T. Shumar (Ryan Clark); dear sister of Bernadine and Joan; and aunt of many. She also leaves special family friend, Marylan Walden.
Millie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, George W. Shumar; daughter, Theresa Maria Shumar; parents, Joseph and Helen Urbani; and siblings, Mary, Howard, Edwin, and Bernard.
Burial will be private.
Arrangements are entrusted to McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio Funeral Homes in Willoughby and Mentor.
