Mary Ann Cahill, age 92, passed away peacefully September 24th. She spent her final hours at the Hospice of the Western Reserve with her children by her side. She returns to the side of her husband Jack, the love of her life since she was 16 years old.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. John J. (Jack) Cahill, her parents John and Gladys Kinkopf, and her brother the Reverend John J. (Jack) Kinkopf. Mary Ann was the proud mother of “Jay”/John (Jan), “Terry” /Mary Therese Mills (Jeff), Tim (Suzanne), Tom (Patty), and Mike (Laura). She leaves 14 loving grandchildren Kelly (Andy) Roberts, Karen (Vince) Amicarelli, Kimberly (Dan) Knoch, Julie (Dan) Schrickel, Michael Cahill, Kyle (Kent) Manson, Scott (Rachel) Cahill, Catherine (Tim) Fiorta, Emily (Nick) Orlando, Erin (Cassidy Laudadio) Cahill, John (Kate) Cahill, Jennifer (Rolando) Archila, David (Morgan) Cahill, Anne (Nick, fiance) Cahill and 21 great grandchildren Brayden Knoch, Addison Knoch, Lucia Orlando, Allie Amicarelli, Rosie Orlando, Reagan Schrickel, Kaitlyn Knoch, Isaac Cahill, Nicholas Amicarelli, Gavin Schrickel, Gabrielle Cahill, Elle Manson, Grace Fiorta, Lucy Cahill, Hanna Cahill, Charlotte Fiorta, Emery Manson, Benjamin Orlando, Molly Cahill, Jack Cahill, Carson Cahill. .
She grew up on East 128th St. in Cleveland as the adoring “kid sister” of Jack, cheering him to gridiron victories at Cathedral Latin H.S. She still sung the Lion fight song! Husband Jack, stole her heart in a chance meeting at Geneva-on-the-Lake in the summer of ’46. Following her graduation from Beaumont H.S., a couple years at Notre Dame College, and many trips to visit Jack at the University of Notre Dame, she was hooked on him (and ND) for the rest of her life. Go Irish!!
Through all the good timed and some very painful and trying times, she always clung to her strong Catholic Christian Faith and values. She was selfless to a fault throughout her life, always thinking of others before herself. As a very young mother she began to raise 5 children (all coming in a 4-year window). She opened her own home for years to love and care for a grandmother, mother, father-in-law, and brother-in-law as well. Every one of her children’s friends knew Mrs. Cahill’s home was a second home to them. She had served in the Court-of-Mary at Immaculate Conception Church, volunteered for the American Lung Assoc., was the founding director of Meals-on-Wheels in Lake County, and spent many volunteer hours with the Lake West hospital Medical Auxiliary. She and Jack were among the founding members, and loved being parishioners of Divine Word Parish.
Mary Ann was an avid bridge player with couples and with the ladies. At husband Jack’s insistence she took up the game of golf. She came to love it with a passion and spent countless, fun-filled hours with Jack, family, and friends over the years. They loved playing at Hilton Head and even played a few rounds in California. She liked “Spyglass Hill” better than “Pebble Beach”!! Her crowning achievement was a hole-in-one at Pine Ridge in 1969.
She carried on courageously, lovingly, and as always, selflessly for nine years since Jack passed and will be missed by all whose lives she touched. Jack and Mary Ann are again together, forever happy, in the glorious presence of our All-Loving God!
Family will receive friends 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, at the McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio Funeral Home, 38001 Euclid Ave., Willoughby. Burial will be at All Souls Cemetery, Chardon.
