Lucia Braca
Lucia Braca, 88, of Concord Twp., passed away March 1, 2024, after a rapid decline in health.
Lucia was born on June 22, 1935, in East Cleveland.
Lucia graduated from Harvey High School in 1953, she was an avid reader, but also known for enjoying gardening, traveling, crafting and the arts. Lucia was always a steadfast presence in her families’ lives. As a result, her shared passions inspired everyone around her. She made sure to acknowledge milestones, birthdays, and holidays (big and small).
In her spare time, she volunteered within the community of St. Gabriel Church. Her favorite times were spent helping to organize events and cook pierogies for the annual festival. She was instrumental in starting their Food Bank and continued to volunteer weekly, up until 2020. She was an active member of the Christ Child Society, the Mission Circle, the Lake County Democratic Ladies Club, the Lake County Historical Society, as well as a member of the Red Hat Society.
She worked for Clevite Inc., as a data processor and retired as a claims processor for the Ohio Lottery.
Lucia is survived by her nieces, Alanna (Tim) Rickel, Nicole and Julianne Kohankie, and Kathryn (Chris) Kraft; great-nephew, Bodi Yowell; great-niece, Abigail Kraft; several cousins in the Minadeo, Levi, and Mangine families; the beloved Metz’s; and many cherished friends.
Lucia was preceded in death by her parents, Julia (nee Mangine) and Nicola, as well as sisters Karman Wilson and Rita (Alan, dec.) Kohankie.
Visitation will be held 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturday, March 16, at McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio at 6330 Center St. (Rt. 615, north of Rt. 2), in Mentor. Mass to follow at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, March 16, at St. Gabriel Church, 9925 Johnnycake Ridge Rd., Concord Twp.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Food Bank at St. Gabriel’s or the Christ Child of the Western Reserve Clothing Cottage, 9324 Mentor Ave., Unit #1, Mentor, OH, 44060.
