Obituary for Louis C Shirer

"Together Again"
Louis C. Shirer, 94, of Painesville, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2023, at UH TriPoint Medical Center in Concord Township.
Born Aug. 15, 1928, in Uniontown, Pa., he had been a resident of Lake County for 69 years, living in Willoughby before moving to Painesville.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran and a member of the Masons. He enjoyed fixing things, was a craftsman and loved bowling.
Louis was the loving father of Jeffery D. (Suni) Shirer, Kathy (Alan) Shearer, Diane Hertel, Kim (Clyde) Collins and Vicki Shirer; cherished grandfather of Vicky (Bob) Mapes, Jeff (Mandy) Collins, Nathan Collins, Stacie (Dave) Baker, Rochelle (Jason) Diggs, Christina Turner, Michael Turner, Katherine (James) Fleenor, Wendy Kunash, Jean Shirer, and Jessye Shearer; great-grandfather of Anna Marie (Brandon) Nevison, Julianna Pollack, Isabella Pollack, Eiijah Diggs, Tyler Diggs, Rowan Collins, Peter Collins, Lucy Collins, Leela Collins, Amalita Collins, Kya Kunash, Katrina Kunash and Daniel Rago; dear brother of Arlene Mayock; and uncle of many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Genevieve S. Shirer in 2012; great-grandchildren, Jacob Rago, Jason Collins and Rochelle Shearer; son-in-law, Wayne Hertel; parents, Carl and Mildred (nee Reiber) Shirer; and siblings, Houston (Dottie, dec.) Shirer, Warren (Betty, dec.) Shirer and Doug Shirer.
Family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 11, at McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio Funeral Home, 6330 Center St. (Route 615, north of Route 2), in Mentor, where a funeral service will take place at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 12. Burial will follow the service at Mentor Cemetery with Military Honors.
