Obituary for Leo F Valentino

Funeral Mass for Leo F. Valentino, 90, of Willoughby, will be 11 a.m. Monday, March 20, 2023, at St. John Vianney Church, 7575 Bellflower Road, Mentor. Fr. Alex Clark will officiate. (*Family and friends are asked to meet at church.)
Leo passed away Wednesday, March 15, 2023, at Danbury Senior Living Mentor, where he was cared for.
Born June 3, 1932, in Cleveland, he had been a resident of Lake County for 56 years, living in Willoughby (Ridge Acres) for 50 years, Willoughby Hills for six years, and a snowbird with his wife in Florida.
Leo was a U.S. Air Force veteran, serving during the Korean War and member of Immaculate Conception Church in Willoughby. He was an avid bowler, golfer, baseball player and coach to his five children. Leo left lasting memories of family trips to Cedar Point, Florida and the Drive-In Theater. He loved playing cards and poker with family and friends, and was known for his sense of humor and one-liners. But most of all, he was a loving and devoted husband to his wife, Dolores, best father who set a very strong example to his children, and was a loving and caring grandfather and great-grandfather, who will be dearly missed.
Mr. Valentino was a retired computer programmer from Antenna Specialist, and bookkeeper for Checker Bar Ice Cream.
Leo was loving father of Deanne (Robert) Ross, James (Kim) Valentino, Richard Valentino, Lori Valentino (Ron Stack), and Tammy (Jack) Petrecca; cherished grandfather of Mackenzi and Madison Ross, Steven, Jimmy (Cali), Nick (Kari), Anthony and Amber Valentino, Aaron and Isabel Stack and Kasey and Jack Petrecca; great-grandfather of Laia Valentino, Isaiah Baker, Briella and Alanah and Ashlynn Valentino; dear brother of Chuck (Diane) Valentino, Frank (Janice) Valentino, Fran M. (Gene) Makowski, and Don Strugar; brother-in-law of Ron and Marian Maloney, Dale and Sandra Maloney, Don and Carol Beljan; and lifelong friend of Eddie Chamberlain.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dolores Jacqueline (nee Maloney) Valentino; parents, Frank and Louise (nee Kabase) Valentino; and sister, Audrey (Howard, dec.) Laird.
Family will receive friends from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio Funeral Home, 6330 Center St. (Route 615, north of Route 2), in Mentor. Burial will be in All Souls Cemetery in Chardon Township.
