Obituary for Kathleen Schell

Kathleen (nee Fantur) Schell, 79, a longtime resident of Kirtland, went to be with the Lord, Thursday, Jan. 18, 2024.
Born Aug. 2, 1944, in Cleveland, she had lived in South Euclid and Geneva before moving to Kirtland.
Kathy went to Brush High School and Dyke College in Cleveland. She followed in her father’s footsteps at General Electric’s Nela Park, taught computer and worked in the library at St. Anselm School in Chesterland, and also ran HR and payroll for Induction Brazing and Soldering Inc.
She enjoyed boating as a member of the Mentor Lagoons Yacht Club in the 1990s, as well as skiing, initially enjoying her early ski years in the Cleveland-based Hi Rise Ski Club. She became very active in the Holiday Valley ski community. She participated in ski races, she and her husband chaired the Holiday Valley Winter Carnival for many years in the 1970s and 1980s, and she was also a member of the Ellicottville Ski Club.
She enjoyed taking classes at Lakeland Community College and gardening, including growing grapes for Welch’s.

Kathy was an avid scholar of the Bible. She loved the bold yet reassuring messages of Joyce Myers and she maintained a devoted affiliation with Kirtland Christian Fellowship in Kirtland.
She was the loving mother of Christine (John) Barrows; cherished grandmother of Hope Barrows; and dear aunt of Kathleen (nee Crowl) Mendenhall.
Kathy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Liguori “Bill” Schell; parents, Charles Louis and Margaret (nee Aman) Fantur; and sister, Linda (nee Fantur) Crowl.
There will be a brief service 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 3, 2024, at Kirtland Christian Fellowship, 10001 Chillicothe Road; Kirtland.
Kathy was passionate about supporting the City Mission of Cleveland. In lieu of flowers please consider donating money or unneeded clothing to the City Mission of Cleveland in her memory.
