Obituary for Karen Heidemann

Karen (nee Brokaw) Heidemann, 80, of Painesville, died peacefully Tuesday, April 9, 2024, at home, surrounded by her family, after a long battle with cancer.
She was born June 16, 1943 in Cleveland, and spent much of her young life in Springfield, Ill.
Karen graduated from Shaw High School in Cleveland. Her high school friends were still a huge part of her life and she never wanted to miss a luncheon with them. She had a few jobs in her life, from White Motors to Philips Medical and some in between, but her most important and fulfilling one was being a mom. Karen spent so much of her life traveling the world with her husband and their travel business. As much as she loved seeing different parts of the world, her true love was always right at home with her three children and being “Nana” to her grandchildren. Her world revolved around her kids. The vacations she enjoyed most were back in Springfield or Florida, visiting her favorite cousins and family. She loved them beyond measure.
Karen certainly left an impression on anyone she was around. She was funny, witty, a fighter and at times, may have even offended a few, but at the end of the day you always knew where you stood with her. She always had something to say. To know her was to love her. It was easy…most of the time.
She had many friends and her lifelong best friend, Myrna and her family were by her side through it all! Karen always had a fear of missing out, she wanted to be a part of everything. Her family and friends know she will be looking down on all of them.
Karen was the beloved wife of 48 years to Werner Heidemann; loving mother of Tommy (Lynn) Clifford, Nicole (Tim) Kelley and Melissa Heidemann; cherished grandmother of Cassidy, Colin, Tara, Willow, Matt, Adam, Alena, Samantha, Ryan and Caitlin; sister of Bill Brokaw and Faith Brokaw Marzi; and aunt to many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Kathryn (nee Ramsey) and Paul Brokaw; and siblings, Paul “Butch” Brokaw and Susan Guard.
Family will receive friends from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 13, at McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio Funeral Home, 6330 Center St. (Rt. 615, N. of Rt. 2), in Mentor, with a Celebration of Life service at 3:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, please go out and purchase yourself a scratch off ticket, lottery ticket, or if you are into that sort of thing, drop some change in a slot machine at the casino. Don’t be cheap and play the penny slots, Karen went all in on the quarter machine! Think of her, she may just be the luck you need!
