Obituary for John Patrick Lackey

John Patrick Lackey, 52, a longtime resident of Mentor, passed away Wednesday, June 15, 2022, at Akron General Hospital.
He was born March 19, 1970, in Cleveland, and was a proud U.S. Navy veteran.
John was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan that attended many AFC Championship games and even a Super Bowl with his father in Miami, Fla. You could never win an argument with him about who was the best team. He would say, “How many rings do you have, we have six.” He loved all sports football, baseball, basketball, golf, etc. You name it and he either played it or watched it. John loved taking his boys fishing with his nephew, Mack and taking his great-nieces and nephew to Curly Cone for ice cream. He was particular about always looking good and being the best dressed, that he learned from his father. When he walked in the room, everybody knew it.
He loved talking sports with his mom, sister, and niece. John was always very protective of his mom and would do anything for her. He checked in with his mom every day and whether it was a text or call, he would say “I’m checking in.” John loved driving his sister crazy, especially when he was beating up her Mrs. Beasley doll. He was kind, caring and would help anyone in need. He loved goofing around and had an infectious laugh that you would never forget.
John loved taking rides with his father-in-law, Joseph Girz. As he would say, “I’m going on a Joey ride.” He loved taking his sons to play Putt-Putt and always beat them before buying them ice cream. He loved taking his boys to baseball games. They were even there at the San Francisco Giants game when Barry Bonds broke the 756th homerun record. He held a special place in his heart for his mother-in-law, Ronnie Girz whom he called “mom.” He married his high school sweet heart twice and they remained very close to this day.
He was best friends to James Ferry, Rich Dugger, Todd Wernet Dave Davis, Dominic Gildone, Scott Koeth, Craig Mahoney, and Brian Voss. When these guys were together it was always a new adventure with many crazy stories.
He worked at Power Alarm for many years, where he made many good friends.
John was the loving father of Patrick M. Lackey, Gavin S. Lackey, John J. Lackey, and Elias “Eli” A. Lackey; dear son of Bonnie Marie (nee Peltoma) Lackey; brother of Michele R. (Jeff) Overturf; former husband of Tricia (nee Girz) Lackey; former son-in-law of Joseph and Ruth Ann Girz; former brother-in-law of Jeffrey Girz and Lisa Vallejo; uncle, great-uncle, nephew, cousin, and special friend to Parri Kline of Akron.
He was preceded in death by his father, John G. Lackey; maternal grandparents, Martin and Mamie (nee Maki) Peltoma; and paternal grandparents, John and Florence (nee Johnson) Lackey.
A special thanks to the doctors and nurses at Akron General Hospital emergency room for their excellent and compassionate care for John and his family.
