Obituary for Jason William Marous

Funeral Mass for Jason William Marous, age 36, will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, 2023, at Divine Word Catholic Church, 8100 Eagle Road, Kirtland.
Born Dec. 22, 1986, in Mayfield Heights, Jason died Jan. 6, 2023, in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.
Jason grew up in the Lake County area and was a 2005 graduate of Mentor High School. He spent his career in the construction industry learning his craft from an early age while working with his father, uncles and older brothers at Marous Brothers Construction. From meager beginnings sweeping floors on job sites as a child, Jason became a talented carpenter and project manager. He went on to become a well-respected Senior Estimator at a construction firm in the Ft. Lauderdale area after moving to Florida in 2014 to follow his dreams of living by the ocean.
Jason was a friend to all and a stranger to no one. His beautiful spirit and loving nature made Jason the person in the room you most wanted to be with. He was always the bright light in any situation that lit up a room. You knew you could always depend on Jason for a kind word or shoulder to lean on. And oh, could he dance. Jason’s moves on the dance floor were legendary. He enjoyed patio gardening and was honing his cooking skills. Jason loved to spend time at the beach and took pride in his “golden” tan (his secret was coconut oil). Jason will truly be missed by his parents, siblings, family and many friends in the rainbow community. His beloved cat, Jack Jack, is missing Jason too. “The hardest good-byes are the ones you don’t see coming. The ones you don’t plan. Or could never imagine happening.”
He was the beloved son of Adelbert “Chip” (Richelle “Shelly”) Marous and Deborah (Keith “Woody”) Lawrence; cherished brother of Michael (Sheila) Marous, Jeffrey (Ashley) Marous, Adelbert “Del” (fiancée, Tonya Kaufman) Marous, Isabella Marous and Enzo Marous; stepbrother of Travis (Jennifer) Esposito and Pete (Jaimie) Esposito; dear nephew of Kathy Marous, Sue Marous, Scott (Sandy) Marous, Kenneth (Jill) Marous, Jeanne (Ron) Kolencik, Gerald (Pamela) Gorka, Joseph (Karen) Gorka, Janet (Greg) Warner and William (Terry) Gorka Jr.; fun and loving uncle of Brady, DeAna, Rocco, Jagger, Blair, Cicely and Ryker; cousin of many; and lifelong friend of Ted Theophylactos.
Jason was preceded in death by his grandparents, Adelbert and Virginia Marous, and William and Cecilia Gorka; aunt, Deann Gorka; and uncle, Jeffrey Gorka.
Family will receive friends from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 13, at McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio Funeral Home, 6330 Center St. (Route 615, north of Route 2), in Mentor. Burial will immediately follow the Mass at All Souls Cemetery in Chardon Township.
