Obituary for James W Macek

James W. Macek, 68, of Mentor, passed away Sunday, July 2, 2023, at Ames Family Hospice of the Western Reserve in Westlake.
Born April 3, 1955, in Garfield Heights, he had been a lifetime resident of Lake County.
He loved his family dearly and cherished the memories he made with his children over the years, whether it was vacationing in North Carolina, attending his daughter's dance recitals and school events, or celebrating the accomplishments of his late son, Matthew, who was a proud Marine.
Jim was a great athlete, who loved softball, basketball and golf and was blessed to be playing into his 60s. He was also an avid Cleveland sports fan and entered each season with optimism towards a long awaited championship. He loved his community and enjoyed frequenting many local establishments, especially Max & Erma’s, Stadium Grill and BW3's, forming bonds with the staff and patrons over the years that grew to be like family. Jim always had a story or memory to share and could make a connection with anyone.
Jim was the proud Owner of Macek Industries in Mentor, which he started in 1997 and operated until his retirement in 2022.
He was the loving father of Carli E. (Kevin) Kissling and Katlyn M. (Brian) Scheck; cherished grandfather of Connor and Cole Kissling; former husband of Laurie J. (nee Archibald) Shane; dear brother of Edward L. (Linda) Macek and Gerald L. (Tamara) Macek; and uncle of nieces and nephews.
Jim was preceded in death by his beloved son, Matthew J. Macek; and parents, Edward J. and Hazel (nee Webb) Macek.
Family will receive friends from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 6, 2023, at McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio Funeral Home, 6330 Center St. (Route 615, north of Route 2), in Mentor, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 7, 2023. Burial will follow the service at Mentor Cemetery.
