Obituary for George Steffy

George Steffy, 87, of Mentor, passed away Dec. 15, 2022, at UH Lake Health West Medical Center in Willoughby.
Born Nov. 7, 1935, in East Cocalico Township, Pa., he had been a resident of Lake County for more than 40 years.
George served proudly in the U.S. Air Force’s Strategic Air Command and graduated from The Pennsylvania State University’s College of Engineering. He started at Osborn Manufacturing in 1964 and retired after over 30 years.
George loved Sinatra, the Chardon Polka Band, playing chair volleyball at the Mentor Senior Center, summer concerts in the park with his friends, and traveling. He could fix anything. He also did the most unique impression of Jimmy Stewart ever heard.
He was the loving father of Patricia Steffy and father-in-law of Andrew Gerngross of Los Angeles, Calif.; and brother of Marian Wenger of Denver, Pa.
George was preceded in death by his beloved wife of nearly 54 years, Barbara; parents, Harvey and Alice (nee Beltz); and siblings, Barry, Mary Louise, and Phyllis.
A memorial visitation will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 6, 2023, at McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio Funeral Home, 6330 Center St., (Route 615, north of Route 2), in Mentor with a Celebration of Life at 6 p.m. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his name may be made to the Mentor Senior Center, 8484 Munson Rd., Mentor, OH 44060, or Lake County Council on Aging, 8520 East Ave., Mentor, OH 44060.
