Obituary for George L Dolovacky

Funeral Mass for George L. Dolovacky, 93, of Kirtland, will be held 10 a.m. Monday, April 12, at Divine Word Catholic Church, 8100 Eagle Road, Kirtland.
Mr. Dolovacky passed peacefully April 8, 2021, surrounded by his family.
George’s life story began February 28, 1928, in the outskirts of Bruceton Mills, W.Va., where he was brought into this world by his hardworking father, George S. Dolovacky and his loving mother, “Maria” Mary Zofcin.
The Dolovacky family lived and worked on a beautiful 91 acre farm of which he was very proud. George and his seven siblings (four brothers and three sisters, who all preceded in death), would often speak fondly of the countless hours of labor and love it took to live on and run a working farm. He and his family plowed the ground, cultivated the fields, planted crops, and tended to their livestock. As a boy, George would complete his morning responsibilities of feeding and milking the cows before heading off to school. George attended a one room schoolhouse, the White School, in his hometown which educated children through the 8th grade. He began to work outside of the farm at age 16, when he acquired two jobs, one at a local saw mill and the other at a coal mine.
Along his occupational path he became fond of the plumbing trade. He moved to Ohio in the late 1940’s and worked with his brother at a Sunoco Station in Mayfield and a plumbing company in Euclid. During this time, he proudly enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1950, and was stationed at Ft. George G. Meade, Maryland, 168th Military Police, Company A Battalion. On June, 16, 1951, he married Mildred B. Trobak (deceased). George was the proud owner of his own plumbing business for 40 years while supporting his wife and seven children.
He was a lifetime member of the Barber-Williams American Legion Post #609, and a member of the Divine Word Catholic Church, Holy Name Society, and a former member of Immaculate Conception Church.
George was a wonderful caring man who will be missed by many. He richly blessed his family with his genuine down to earth character. He loved to complete tasks in unique ways, like using a two by four to level soil or using a ruler to accurately create planting rows in the garden. Everything he did, he felt he did with a purpose, regardless of being right or wrong in someone else’s eyes. He always tried to create, repair, and mend things in ways that might be considered “old school” because he was resourceful and felt that quality items are not disposable. He was a man that was never boastful. He came from humble beginnings to create and establish a life of which he was proud. George showed his family and friends that being yourself is simply good enough!
George’s most memorable moments here on earth were made when he was working, cooking, attending to heating and plumbing calls, dancing the Polka (boy, he LOVED to dance), vegetable gardening, watching the birds, watching the grandkids’ antics and teaching them the how to’s and why’s, and providing for his family.
He was the loving father of Patricia (Paul) Soya, George (Linda), the late Joe (passed in 2016), Dave (Anita), Jim (Debbie), Ann (Frank) Mocnik, Carol (Edward) Bradac; proud grandfather of 14 grandchildren, Adam and Aaron Soya, Crystal, April (Justin) Jenkins, Katelyn, Stephanie, Melissa (Sam) Griesmer, Matthew and Michaela Mocnik, Lance, Paige, Olivia, Brynn and Eric Bradac, and Karter Gentile; and one great-grandchild. Later in life, George was married for 20 years to Mary Ann (Moses), who also preceded him in death.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation in his name to either the Barber-Williams American Legion Post 609, 7900 Euclid Chardon Road, Kirtland, OH 44094 or Traditions Health, 677 Alpha Drive, Highland Heights, OH 44143.
The family appreciates and thanks the staff members from each of these caring organizations that attended to him at home: Traditions Health (Hospice), Veterans Affairs of Lake County Outpatient Clinic, Visiting Angels in Mentor, Taylor Made Home Care, LLC, and Elara Caring.
Family will receive friends from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, April 11, at McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio Funeral Homes, 38001 Euclid Avenue, Willoughby. (Due to Covid-19, safety protocols will be observed.) Burial will follow the Mass Monday at Kirtland South Cemetery.
