Obituary for Dorothy S May

Dorothy S. (nee Svacil) May, 80, of Willoughby, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2024, at Hospice of the Western Reserve in Cleveland.
Born July 14, 1943, in Fairpoint, Dorothy, affectionately known as “Dottie,” moved to Cleveland with her family in 1945.
She attended WH Longfellow Elementary School and completed her middle and high school at Collinwood. She graduated from Cosmetology school and then moved to Lake County, 60 years ago.
Dorothy was a devoted beautician, where she developed lasting, strong relationships with customers and colleagues that continued well beyond her career. She touched many lives, listened to many stories and always gave the best advice over her 48 year career.
She was not only admired by her family, but also by a vast circle of friends, and large extended family. She adored many nieces and nephews that she treated as if they were her own. She was known as “Maw Maw” by her grandchildren. Renowned for her culinary skills, she was a fantastic cook and had an incredible ability to create Italian family meals that will be passed down for generations. She enjoyed traveling and vacationing with family and friends. You could always catch her watching her favorite Cleveland Browns, Ohio State football, and Cleveland Indians games. She found joy in shopping “going bumming,” spending quality time with her friends and family, and her nails were always the sight of perfection. She will be forever loved and deeply missed.
Dorothy was the beloved wife of Bobby May; loving mother of Shawn (Jude) May and Jacqueline (Ken) Hudson; cherished grandmother of Cole, Shawn Jr., MacKenzie, Braden, Cannon and Maddison; dear sister of James (Linda) Svacil; and sister-in-law of Rick Greaves and Ken Bieniek.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Lorena (nee Spontaneo) Svacil; sisters, Marcia Greaves and Nancy Bieniek; and niece, Lorena Beth (nee Svacil) Roberts.
Family will receive friends from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday, March 8, 2024, at The Abbey of Willoughby, 38011 Euclid Ave. (located on the grounds of McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio Funeral Home), in Willoughby, with a Celebration of Life at 11 a.m. Burial will follow the service at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Seville.
