Obituary for Clinton Eugene "Buzz" McMannes

Memorial Mass and Celebration of Life for Clinton Eugene “Buzz” McMannes, of Mentor, will be 11 a.m. Friday, March 4, 2022, at St. Bede the Venerable Church, 9114, Lakeshore Blvd., Mentor. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the Mass at the church.
Buzz passed away Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2022.
Born Dec. 1, 1939, in Jefferson, Pa., to Sherman and Isabel McMannes, Buzz was raised in Mather, Pa., with his sisters, Sandra and Cynthia; and brother, Keith.
Buzz moved to Cleveland in 1960, and began working for National Screw. During a visit “back home,” he reconnected with Cynthia Santoro at a dance and they became engaged.
Buzz and Cynthia were married in 1960, and soon moved to Mentor. Buzz got a job at Lincoln Electric, and they settled into life with their daughter, Crystal. Buzz worked at Lincoln Electric for over 30 years. He retired from Lincoln in 1998. He was a Lincoln man and loved to tell stories about his days at Lincoln Electric.
He was an active member of his community. Buzz coached girls’ softball for many years and volunteered at Crystal’s swimming events. He was involved in the Mentor High School PTA Circus, as well as many other fundraising events for the school. He was also a member of many bowling leagues, and was a Red Coat for the Playhouse Square theaters. Buzz and Cynthia loved to travel with their friends and went on many excursions with the Mentor Senior Center.
Buzz was an avid golfer. He loved the game and could be found on the course whenever time and weather permitted. Buzz and Cynthia made lifelong friends through golf. They spent most of their free time at Black Brook County Club. Buzz was very proud of his four hole-in-one shots, but his goal was to get one more to tie Cynthia.
After retirement, Buzz and Cynthia spent their winters in Florida. Buzz loved the sunshine and was happy being there during the cold months.
Buzz was a three-time cancer survivor. His fighting spirit and support from his family helped him to fight his way through these battles.
If you knew Buzz, you knew loved to sing. He was in many high school productions and part of a Barber Shop Quartet. If you said a word or phrase, Buzz would break into song...and he knew many. Buzz was a born entertainer. He always had a joke or a story to tell. He loved to make people laugh and he was the life of the party. If you weren’t his friend, you hadn’t met him.
Buzz is survived by the love of his life, Cynthia; and their daughter, Crystal. He was happiest at home with his family.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the American Cancer Society, 10501 Euclid Ave., Cleveland, OH 44106.
