Obituary for Betty Lou McMahan

With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Betty Lou McMahan, age 84, of Chardon, a loving mother, and friend to all those lives she touched. She died Friday, Dec. 4, 2020, after a long fight with Alzheimer’s and vascular dementia. Betty joins her daughter, Terrie (John) Munaretto in Heaven, who died in March 2011. Her daughters, Sandra (Ron) Jankowski and Constance Preh will carry on her loving memories every day in their hearts.
Betty was born Oct. 7, 1936, in West Virginia, to James and Sadie (nee Foster) Cranfield. She had wonderful memories of growing up in the coal mines and large farms in Kentucky and West Virginia.
She was the cherished sister of Frank (Joy) Cranfield, Robert Cranfield, Mary Moore, and her late brothers, Carl Cranfield, Ed Cranfield and James Cranfield. Betty was also involved so much in her grandchildren’s lives from their births to all of their monumental moments while growing up. They loved her wit, passion of fun and loving advice. She was the proud grandmother of Tera Munaretto, Michael Munaretto, Timothy Jankowski, Christopher Jankowski, Sabryna Preh, Tabitha Preh and Samuel Preh, and the late John Munaretto. Betty was also the great-grandmother of five.
Coming to Ohio as a young lady, Betty worked in Euclid for a short time, then moved to Willoughby and worked at Marshall Drug at the soda fountain and shoe store before getting married. She also worked at Lake Hospital in the dietary department at both Lake East in Painesville and Lake West in Willoughby before retiring.
Living in Willoughby, she had many friends that she played Bridge, tennis and went on bus trips with. Always full of energy, getting her family ready for a weekend camping trip or in later years, trips to the cabin in Tidioute, Pa. She made everyone feel right at home. She will truly be missed.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
Arrangements are entrusted to McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio Funeral Homes in Willoughby and Mentor.
