Obituary for Carmela Di Palma Mastrangelo

Carmela DiPalma Mastrangelo, 97, passed away Saturday, Oct. 14, 2017, surrounded by her family.
Carmela came to the United States through Ellis Island from Oratino, Italy in 1923. She was raised in Willoughby and attended McKinley Elementary School and Andrews School for Girls. Carmela majored in dressmaking, which enabled her to work in tailoring at William Taylor, Marie T. Kish and Amy Lewis. During World War II, she worked at Lincoln Electric and then at the Kirtland Country Club and Broadmoor Vocational Guidance Center.
Carmela was a member of Immaculate Conception Church for over 90 years. Her love of roses, sewing, friends, faith, family and Andrews School for Girls brought her much happiness.
Carmela was preceded in death by her husband, Victor; and son, Gerry.
She is survived by her sister, Gilda (nee DiPalma) Fatica; son, Thomas (Laraine nee Cannavino) Mastrangelo; daughter, Claudia (Scott) Fessenden; daughter-in-law, Debra (nee Orahoske) Mastrangelo; grandchildren, Ryan (Michelle) Mastrangelo, Renee (Esteban) Soto, James (Allison) Fessenden, Lyndsay Fessenden, Emily Mastrangelo and Michelle Mastrangelo; eight great-grandchildren, Grace, Nolan, Reese, Autumn, Brit, Jillian, Ozzie and Teo; and sister-in-law, Ameriga (Elio) Iafelice.
The Mastrangelos wish to extend many to thanks to their families for their love and support and especially to the staff at Brookdale Senior Living in Wickliffe.
Family will receive friends from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio Funeral Home, 38001 Euclid Ave., Willoughby. Mass of Christian Burial will be 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at Immaculate Conception Church, 37940 Euclid Ave., Willoughby. Burial will follow in Willoughby Cemetery.
