- Funeral Mass for George J. Callahan Sr., 79, of Mentor, will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 8560 Mentor Ave., Mentor.
Mr. Callahan passed away Thursday, July 1, 2010, at his daughter's residence surrounded by his family and lots of love at his side.
Born April 16, 1931, in Rochester, N.Y., he had been a Lake County resident for the past 42 years, living in Eastlake before moving to Mentor.
George was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Mentor, the Fraternity of Miserable Browns fans, and a former member of the Irish American Club-East Side Inc. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He loved his family and his bride. He enjoyed flower gardening and listening to Frank Sinatra.
Mr. Callahan was a longtime finance manager with Joe O'Brien Chevrolet of Mayfield Road in Lyndhurst.
He is the beloved husband of 54 years to Dorothy A. "Mickey" (Kearns) Callahan; loving father of Sheryl A. (Martin) Coyne of Ashtabula, Mary Elaine (Ron) Roulette of Mentor, Ellen F. (Jim) McHugh of Painesville Township, George J. Callahan Jr. of Willoughby, John P. (Shelley) Callahan of Hudson, Katie Callahan of Painesville Township, and Jack Callahan of Painesville Township; cherished grandfather of Cesar, Ryan, Michael, Casey, Mary, Catie, Cara, Qynne, George, John and Kevin; great-grandfather of Calvin, Caitlyn, Anna, Liam and Nora; beloved brother of Ellen A. Falvey of Mentor; and uncle of may nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son, Michael C. Callahan; parents, George J. and Gertrude (nee, Christopher) Callahan; and sibling, Jackie Callahan.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio Funeral Home, 38001 Euclid Ave., Willoughby. Father Tom Elsasser will officiate the service. Burial will be in All Souls Cemetery in Chardon Township.
The family suggests contributions be made to Hospice of the Western Reserve, 300 E. 185th St., Cleveland, OH 44119.
